Did Jesus Mean What He Said?

Luke 14:33 So likewise, whosoever he be of you that forsaketh not all that he hath, he cannot be my disciple.
Is it possible to "forsake all" to follow Christ without divesting myself of all of my money? Or perhaps I should say, while holding on to some assets as security in case of a "rainy day"... a downturn in the economy... an emergency... hyperinflation... etc? Is this not exactly what my Lord spoke against? Is this not what it means to be anxious for food and drink and clothing? Consider Matthew 6:19-34 "Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal: but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven... for where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.... Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal [by what means] shall we be clothed? (For after all these things do the Gentiles seek:) for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of these things. But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you. Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof."
So, if I have about $6,000 in gold saved up for that possible future "emergency," am I not "taking thought for the morrow"? I don't believe that I can claim to be a follower of Jesus... a disciple... a Christian... and hold on to it as a security against a rainy day. I must trust my Lord to take care of me when those days come. The just shall live by faith. Jesus meant what he said.
